E-rooms: the Classrooms of On-line Students

With the continuing increase in the number of college classes taught via the Internet, there is a real need to investigate the on-line classroom, or E-room, and its impact on the students in these classes. The first step in the process involves describing the actual learning environments, or E-rooms, of students presently participating in on-line classes. This report presents the results of a study involving students taking on-line classes through Southside Virginia Community College.

A review of the literature reveals vital information for Virginia's Community Colleges in determining needs for noncredit programs in the area of entrepreneurship and small-business management. This article discusses the priorities and problems facing Virginia small businesses and what Virginia's community colleges can do to assist these small businesses. Perhaps the most disturbing input from small businesses found in this study is the lack of knowledge about what Virginia community colleges have to offer. This should be a clear signal to Virginia's community colleges, a challenge to better communicate to the small business community the types of assistance and training they offer.

This study compared the National Board for Respiratory Care entry-level credentialling examination scores of the J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College class of 1997 distance education respiratory therapy students with the J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College class of 1997 traditional respiratory therapy students' scores and found no significant differences.
