The Virginia Community Colleges Association (VCCA) welcomes you to the Spring 1999 Inquiry. On behalf of the entire VCCA membership, I commend the editorial staff for the many hours of hard work and energy required bringing this innovative publication to us. You will find the articles in this issue both informative and beneficial. If you have been a presenter at the annual VCCA convention or the VCCA Leadership conference, please submit an article. This publication affords you a wonderful opportunity to share your expertise with colleagues throughout Virginia and the nation.

The VCCA is your professional organization, advocating professional growth and development, excellence in teaching and learning, academic freedom, professional responsibility, and ethics. The VCCA members are proud of the administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and board members at each of our 23 community colleges. You are encouraged to join VCCA and to become an active participant in the many professional development and leadership activities available each year.

Membership in the VCCA offers you the opportunity to become an active participant in the identification and examination of the ever-changing needs of all Virginia’s community colleges. The VCCA needs your talents and encourages your commitment to our mission of providing programs and services to develop the best administrative talent, the best teaching faculty and the best support staff personnel possible to lead, teach, and support Virginia’s community colleges in the new millennium.

Remember that the VCCA is your professional organization. Become a member. It takes all of us working together to activate the full potential of community college education in Virginia.
