VCCA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD

September 30, 1998

The pre-convention meeting was called to order at the Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, Virginia, by Melba Taylor, president.

Melba Taylor thanked the members of the Executive Committee for their hard work noting that 1997-98 proved to be a very challenging but productive year for the Association.

Pat Ephriam, Parliamentarian - Black Concerns Commission, was welcomed to the meeting and given the opportunity to address the Committee, which he declined because he only wished to observe.

Minutes from the September 3-4, 1998 Executive Committee were distributed for review. The minutes will be presented for approval at the November meeting.

Claudia Macon presented a treasurer’s report. A motion was made and seconded to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. The Executive Committee thanked Claudia Macon for her work.

Concurrent session assignments were discussed. It was noted that the members of the Executive Committee are all to make everyone feel welcome at the Convention.

Melba Taylor will welcome the College Board Commission at their meeting as well as the Instructional Affairs Commission. All liaisons were asked to report back any comments and new officers to the Executive Committee meeting.

The Executive Committee members were reminded of the importance of the Commissions. Each commission will be asked for submissions for the 1999 Convention.

 Sixty-seven voting delegates that have been identified. Terry Whisnant has an updated listing of all delegates and alternatives for the Convention. The Election Committee will meet prior to the voting time to review the process.

The VCCA noted that membership for the 1998-1999 year is at 924. This exceeds the goal of 900 that the Committee had set.

The winners of the recruitment drive are: 3rd place - Nancy Rudolph with 23 recruits, 2nd place - Gary Thomas with 36 recruits and 1st place - Deborah Moses with 38 recruits. Congratulations to everyone for a very successful recruitment drive.

Meeting adjourned. The next meeting is the Assembly of Delegates on October 5, 1998.
