The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. at
the Chesapeake Room of the Hyatt Richmond, in Richmond, Virginia, by VCCA
President, Virginia Hartman.

Virginia Hartman reported that Dell Computers is
developing a Sponsor package for VCCA members to include significant price
reductions on laptop and desktop computers, including peripherals. The
Committee recommended approval for the President to pursue their sponsorship
and to meet with the corporate representative who will prepare proposals and
have displays of the computer products at the VCCA Convention. Dell Corporation
will be asked to sponsor the February Leadership Conference.

Convention costs are rising each year. Funds for
the convention are contingent upon registration fees and membership ships. It
is imperative that all participants pay the registration fee, including
presenters and award winners.
Melba Taylor reported on PG&D proposals.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the pre-convention
proposal submitted by the Faculty/Instructional Affairs Commission to be held
Wednesday, October 6, 1999. Motion carried. A motion was made and seconded to
approve the pre-convention proposal submitted by the Support Staff Commission
to be held Thursday, October 7, 1999. Motion carried.
The Executive Committee commended Sue Captain for her fine efforts in researching the History of VCCA and for organizing the archival files.
The Support Staff Commission Chair has confirmed
they have established a plan for using the $1814.52 in VCCA general funds prior
to November 2000.
The February VCCA Leadership Conference will be
held in Richmond at the Hyatt Richmond. The VCCA Fall Convention will be held
in Roanoke at the Hotel Roanoke in October 2000.
The President Elect presented the list of
candidates for office for the year 1999-2000. They are President Elect, Linda
Rhinard (TCC – Chesapeake); Treasurer, Carolyn Haines (LFCC); Member-At-Large
1001 to 2000, Susan Coffey (CVCC); and Member-At-Large 2001 – 5000, Kay
Robertson (JTCC).

The Executive Committee expressed their
appreciation to Sue Painter for the outstanding job on the Convention
Newsletter. Sue also announced the the VCCA Membership form is now on the VCCA
Web site at www.br.cc.va.us/vcca/vcca.html.
The Executive Committee reviewed the proposed
amendments sent out with the Convention Newsletter and made the following
changes to Amendment One: The term Adjunct Membership will be changed to
Auxiliary Membership, the word Virginia Community Colleges will be added to the
membership definition for Faculty and Support Staff categories, and the
permanent identification will be deleted from the Support Staff category. Amendments
Two and Three were removed from consideration by the Assembly of Delegates. A
motion was made and seconded to approve the changes made to the proposed
amendment. Motion carried.
A motion was made and
seconded to adjourn the meeting at 10:00 p.m.
Motion carried. The next meeting of the VCCA
Executive Committee will be held on September 3, 1999, at 8:30 a.m.
